Dear School Families,

On behalf of all the faculty and staff, I sincerely wish you a Happy Easter. May the presence of the Risen Jesus be a constant in your life. Hopefully, this will be a great time for spiritual and personal renewal. May you enjoy your time with family and friends.

All of us at St. Tars are absolutely thrilled with the remarkable recovery of Mr. Art Styzen. As you know, on March 17th Art had to have part of his kidney removed due to cancer. I am pleased to report that he was able to rejoin us yesterday and is back on his morning traffic duty. Thank you for all your prayers for Art. They certainly worked! I would also like to thank Mr. Oslowski (Mr. O) on doing such a wonderful job filling in for Art.

On March 10th our second grade students and those involved in our Religious Education program celebrated Jesus Day. We would like to thank our second grade teachers Mrs. Pasulka and Miss Schieber, D.R.E. Mrs. Lyons, Fr. Chris, and all the parents who helped make this such a special day. We congratulate and pray for these students as they continue to prepare to receive First Holy Communion.

Our school is proud to announce that eighth grade student Shannon Malone has been awarded the Regina High School Betty Shayer Memorial Award in the amount of $1,000.00 based on her 2010 scores on the placement test. Shannon’s scholarship is a testimony to her teachers at St. Tarcissus Catholic School as well as her diligence as a student. Congratulations Shannon on this wonderful achievement.

The following St. Tarcissus Catholic School band members participated in a Solo Festival at St. Benedict School:

Our students did very well and we congratulate them on their accomplishments.

Congratulations to 7th graders Nathan Gayford, Nick Bartuce and Ryan Hecker. They were part of our math team, along with Tommy Norton and Jacob Frank, that participated in a 7th grade contest at St.Patrick High School on Saturday, March 13th. Nathan and Nick both received Special Mention Awards, and Ryan received an Honorable Mention Award. The contest attracted 17 teams and about 90 participants. Our students worked hard preparing for this under the guidance and direction of Mr.Wuich, 7th grade math teacher. Great job everyone.

The annual 4th Grade Invention Convention was held on Tuesday March 23rd. The students worked extremely hard under the leadership of their science teacher, Mrs. LoSchiavo. Our fourth graders had to come up with an invention, write a paper after researching an inventor and give an oral presentation. We congratulate our fourth grade students and are very proud of all their hard work. We thank our many visitors who stopped by to see all the creative inventions. Way to go fourth grade!

Recently, 3rd grade student Aidan McKeag had his hair cut for “Buzz cuts for Danny”. The money raised goes for donations to the “Danny Did Foundation” for children with seizures. Congratulations Aidan for thinking of others and doing this wonderful, thoughtful act of kindness.

Our Early Childhood Program will be hosting an Open House for prospective families on Wednesday, April 21st from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. If you know of any family looking for preschool or kindergarten please spread the word. The rest of the school will also be open to new families to take a tour. Please spread the word about St. Tars School to neighbors and friends that it is time to register for next school year.

I have been e-mailing our families updates, reminders, and information. If you have not been receiving these e-mails, please call the school office to give us an accurate e-mail address.

I invite you to continue to check our website at www.sttars.org for parish, school and calendar information.

Our next regularly scheduled School Council Meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14th in the auditorium.

Fr. McCarthy, Mr. Smith, Mrs. Peraino and I will be taking 45 of our eighth graders on our annual trip to Washington D.C. We leave on Friday, April 16th and return on Sunday evening April 18th. Please keep us in your prayers for a safe and enjoyable experience.
